About the Center Bar Work Buckle
Available in stainless steel or titanium, the center bar work buckle is a durable buckle replacement or upgrade for anyone with a nickel allergy. Guaranteed to never test positive for nickel, these buckles will keep you nickel-rash-free. These buckles fit 1½ inch or 38 mm straps (inside width is 1½ inches or 38 mm). The Titanium version measure 2¾ inches (70 mm) long x 2⅛ inches (54 mm) wide. The Stainless Steel version measures 2.75" log by 2" tall.
Why Stainless Steel?
Stainless steel alloys have many formulations and often include chromium, nickel, and molybdenum: chromium gives the metal its scratch resistance, nickel provides a smooth and polished finish, and molybdenum gives greater hardness. Surgical steel typically contains nickel, but certain formulations and processes utilized in its manufacture create a very tight bond in which the nickel salts do not leach out and cause a nickel allergic reaction. Stainless steel does not corrode, rust, or stain. Its strength is similar to steel and features a highly lustrous and durable finish.
Why Titanium?
Titanium has a very high strength-to-weight ration in addition to being corrosion-resistant. These attributes make it an ideal material for belt buckles, jewelry, and use within the human body. Titanium can be polished, brushed or bead blasted for a variety of finishes. Titanium is 60% harder and 40% lighter than steel. It is difficult to work which adds to its expense, but it is an ideal material for those with multiple metal allergies. Although possible, allergic reactions to titanium are very rare.
